How it works

Four steps, all year long

Most people meet their tax preparer once, in April, when it's too late to change anything. Tax Transformer works on your taxes through the year, so the return is the last step of a plan.

1

Plan

Early in the year

We set your strategy, withholding and estimated payments, and the budget your books will follow.

2

Track

All year

Your income, expenses and life changes are tracked as they happen, so nothing waits for a shoebox in March.

3

Check

October–November

We review the numbers while there's still time to act: retirement contributions, timing of income and expenses, and year-end moves.

4

Transform

Filing season

Your return is prepared from clean numbers and filed at the lowest tax the law allows, with the reasoning documented.

Services

What we prepare and plan

Individual returns

Form 1040 with investments, retirement income, itemized deductions, education and family credits, and the new 2026 deductions for tips, overtime and seniors.

Self-employed

Sole proprietors and single-member LLCs on Schedule C, with home office, vehicle, depreciation and a plan for quarterly estimates.

Landlords

Rental properties on Schedule E, with depreciation tracked correctly year after year, including California rentals.

S corporations and partnerships

Forms 1120-S and 1065 with K-1s, reasonable-compensation review and the Texas franchise tax report.

Texas and California

Part-year returns for clients moving between the two states, and California returns for rentals and businesses there.

Year-round planning

Tax projections, withholding checks, retirement-plan choices and year-end reviews, so the tax is managed before December 31.

A good fit

  • ✓Individuals, the self-employed, landlords, S corporations and partnerships
  • ✓Residents of Texas, California or another state with no individual income tax
  • ✓People who want a plan, not just a return
  • ✓Clients who keep organized records and can share their last 2–3 returns

Not a fit right now

  • –State returns other than California
  • –Several years of unfiled returns with missing records
  • –Businesses that can't provide bank statements or receipts
  • –New C corporation (Form 1120) clients

About

Hi, I'm Mario Reyes.

Accounting Manager · Controller · Fractional CFO

For 37 years, businesses have brought me their hardest financial problems: a monthly close that took 15 days, a $2 million annual deficit, loan negotiations in the middle of the 2008 downturn. I've held nearly every role in a finance department, in manufacturing, real estate, tribal government and casinos, construction and cannabis.

Tax Transformer brings that experience to your return. A return is only as accurate as the numbers behind it, so I review them the way a controller would, comparing years and catching errors before they reach the IRS. And because the best tax savings are planned, not found, I work with you before the year ends.

When you work with Tax Transformer, you always talk to me.

Startup to seven figures

A first-time owner came in with unfiled returns. Projections helped secure the business location, an S corporation election cut self-employment tax, and the business grew into a seven-figure net worth.

Cash without a tax bill

A client was told to sell investments for a home down payment. A loan against the portfolio raised the cash in days and saved more than $20,000 in capital gains tax.

Texas and California

Rentals and businesses in both states, part-year returns for clients on the move, and California depreciation tracked separately every year.

Questions

Good to know

Do we meet in person?

Everything can be done online: the questionnaire, secure uploads, e-signatures and video or phone calls. Clients don't need to visit an office.

When should I start?

The earlier the better. Planning in spring and fall is where the savings come from. For filing, starting in January gives time for a careful review before the April 15 deadline.

How do I get my documents to you safely?

Through the secure upload page. Files arrive encrypted in a folder for your account only. Please don't send tax documents by regular email or text.

Is a big refund a good sign?

Not necessarily. A refund means you overpaid during the year and the government held your money without interest. The goal is the lowest legal tax, with withholding set so more stays in your paycheck.

What if the IRS sends me a letter later?

Responses to IRS notices about a return I prepared are included. Send me the letter through the upload page and I'll take it from there.
